Construction of overpass to Riasne continues in Lviv: works have moved to the Kovcha Street side

In Lviv, construction of a new overpass continues, intended to improve the connection between the Riasne neighbourhood and the city centre. After completing the main works on the Shevchenka Street side, the contractor, Onur LLC, has begun the active phase of construction from the Kovcha Street side.

According to Lvivavtodor LCE, on the Shevchenka Street side the slope has already been reinforced with a sheet pile retaining wall, 5 bored cast-in-place piles have been installed, and a 13-metre cap has been concreted, onto which the bridge beams will later be mounted. The temporary sheet pile wall is currently being dismantled, as it was used only for the duration of the pile installation.

In parallel, builders are arranging the work site on the Kovcha Street side. Here they are preparing the area for slope reinforcement and subsequent drilling of piles, similar to the works already carried out near Shevchenka Street. Because of this, the right-hand traffic lane on Kovcha Street in the direction of Shevchenka Street has been temporarily closed.

Lvivavtodor notes that the next stages of construction will involve the use of large-sized machinery, so the traffic management scheme will be changed and the public transport stop will be relocated. They promise to publish a detailed traffic plan and the new location of the stop separately.

Preparatory works for the construction of the duplicate overpass on Kovcha Street began in March. The designed facility will have three traffic lanes, a combined cycling and pedestrian zone, and traffic light control. The City Council stresses that the new bridge should relieve the overloaded Shevchenka Street and make it possible to carry out reconstruction of the existing emergency bridge.

The construction period for the new overpass on Kovcha Street is 11 months, but the contractor plans to complete the main works by the end of this year. The project cost is 106.8 million UAH. The construction is financed with loan funds, as the resources of the city budget are mainly directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
