In Sambor, the reconstruction of the premises for the residence of IDPs will begin

Today, September 21, the Lviv OVA, the Maltese Aid Service of Ukraine and the Sambir City Council signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The memorandum envisages carrying out repair work in one of Sambor’s medical institutions for further accommodation of internally displaced persons.

The object has three floors, and its total area is almost 800 m2. After all the repair works, 120 to 150 displaced people will be able to live here at the same time.

“Evacuation trains from different regions of Ukraine arrive in Lviv region every day. The number of officially registered forced migrants in the region is 250,000, of which 75,000 are children. We try to create comfortable living conditions for them. The signing of today’s Memorandum will give a start to the start of repair work in the premises of the polyclinic, which has not been functioning for several years. It should be noted that, unlike previous projects, where restoration of objects took place together with donors, the Maltese Service volunteered to repair the premises in Sambor independently, without co-financing from the regional or local budgets, which will allow the relevant funds to be directed to other urgent needs. I would like to invite other donor organizations and international funds to join this common cause,” said the head of Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytskyi.

The cost of the works, according to preliminary estimates, is 15 million hryvnias. The reconstruction is planned to be completed by the end of 2022.

“Most sponsors implement projects to support internally displaced persons specifically in Lviv, but we have expanded our activities to the territory of the entire region. We held a tender for dismantling the facility in Sambor. This is a medical institution with an area of almost 800 m2. Here it is necessary to replace the roof and windows on all floors, to carry out engineering communications, in particular, electricity and water supply. There will also be kitchens and bathrooms on each floor. We will start the work from Monday,” Pavlo Titko, chairman of the board, director of the Maltese Aid Service of Ukraine, said.

After the victory, this object will remain the property of the Sambir community. By the way, more than 3.5 thousand IDPs live in this community.

“Internally displaced persons are settled both in the private sector and in communally owned facilities of the district. Some people return home, and some stay here, in the Lviv region, because they simply have nowhere else to go. During these six months, people have already adapted to new living conditions, found official work. I thank the regional administration and all partners for their comprehensive support and help in providing people with housing,” added Yurii Gamar, head of the Sambir City Council.

We will remind you that Lviv Oblast approved a new regional Program for the implementation of priority infrastructure projects, within which it was planned to repair 25 institutions in 20 territorial communities and create 2,700 places for long-term residence of IDPs. The total amount from the regional budget is more than UAH 150 million.
