The issue of purchasing insulin pumps for children with diabetes was discussed at the Sheptytska City Council.
There are 36 children diagnosed with type I diabetes registered at the Sheptytska hospital. The budget request for the purchase and servicing of 13 insulin pumps is 1,112,800 UAH, with an additional 951,600 UAH needed for their maintenance and consumables over the year. A city program for procurement is currently under development.
Head of the Health Department Myroslav Pushchyk noted that the funds for the pump purchase will be allocated to the Central City Hospital of Sheptytsk. **The devices** will be under the jurisdiction of this institution. The installation of the pumps is being discussed with specialists from the Saint Nicholas Hospital in Lviv, as there is no stationary pediatric endocrinology department in Sheptytsk.
Representative of the manufacturer company ‘MedExService,’ Tetyana Shliaktychuk, explained that the manufacturer provides a 4-year warranty, and the overall lifespan of the pump is approximately 6–7 years. If the device fails not due to patient fault, it will be replaced. The pump can be reused if a family opts out of the therapy.
Parents emphasized that for diabetes control, children need not only pumps but also transmitters for continuous glucose monitoring. Medical professionals urged families to carefully consider the decision and ensure that the equipment will be used.
