Two thousand journalists from all over the world have visited Lviv since the beginning of the full-scale war

Media from more than 50 countries on five continents report on Russia’s attack on Ukraine. CNN, BBC, the Guardian, New York Times, Bild, Al Jazeera and journalists from other world media are constantly working in Ukraine.

Among the media, most representatives are from Ukraine (26% – journalists and recorders for foreign media), France (8%), USA (8%), Italy (7%), Great Britain (6%), Poland (5%), Spain (5%), Germany (5%), Canada (3%) and Japan (3%).

These are the data of the Lviv Tourist Office, on the basis of which the Lviv Media Center was established in February. At that time, tourists had already started leaving Lviv, while the number of foreign journalists was growing every day. As a result, the space on Ruska was reorganized for the needs of foreign media. In less than a month of work, it has grown to the scale of Ukraine Media Center and has become a real journalistic haven thanks to the cooperation of the Lviv City Council, the Office of the President of Ukraine and media professionals from Kyiv. At that time, the Ukrainian Media Center moved to a larger building, the Pravda Brewery at 32 Rynok Square, and still operates there.

Every day in Ukraine Media Center there are press briefings, live broadcasts from all Ukrainian cities. Meetings are also held for foreign journalists with representatives of various fields where they can better understand the military, political or social situation in Ukraine. In addition, the space works as a coworking space. Here journalists receive up-to-date and verified information about the latest events in Ukraine.

“We are the first to meet journalists who come to Ukraine. We do not just register journalists, but immediately provide maximum information that helps them in their work in our country. We make sure that journalists are informed about the peculiarities of work in wartime, have access to important contacts and speakers. We are helping to find a hero or a story through which the world will learn even more about the war in Ukraine, ”said Khrystyna Lebed, coordinator of the media center.

“We were very helped in the media center: a great location, the Internet and specialists who help to establish contacts with people from various fields: migrants, hospitals, the army. It is very important for a country at war to have such a service for foreign journalists, ”said Cristina Solias Marin of Tv3, Spain.

In addition, the media center cooperates with the international organization Reporters Without Borders, which defends the rights and security of journalists. With their help, the Lviv Center for Freedom of the Press was established, which provides journalists with helmets, bulletproof vests and turnstiles, as well as conducts trainings on personal safety and home care.
