The Drohobych community regretfully announces the death of 29-year-old defender of Ukraine Valentyn-Leonid Bandrovskyi, who passed away after a prolonged struggle to recover. A soldier who had been through the front line and the severe trials of war, he departed this life already in civilian life.
Valentyn-Leonid Bandrovskyi was born in 1997 in Drohobych. He spent his childhood on Volodymyr Velykyi Street, studied at Drohobych Lyceum No. 14, and later at the school in the village of Derezhychi. In 2011, after completing the 9th grade, he entered the Ivan Bohun Kyiv Military Lyceum, where his character and attitude towards military service were shaped.
On the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion, in 2022, his own brother Oleksandr, a 22-year-old lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was killed. After this loss, Valentyn-Leonid volunteered for the army to continue the work of his fallen brother.
He served in military unit A7014 with the rank of private, working as a maintenance section specialist for armoured vehicles in the technical support platoon of a self-propelled artillery battalion. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he defended Ukraine for about three and a half years. For his courage and dedication, he was awarded the Cross of the Land Forces and the badge “For Courage and Bravery” of the 66th Separate Mechanised Brigade.
In September 2025, Valentyn-Leonid was discharged from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the consequences of combat, the loss of his brother and what he had lived through at the front seriously undermined his health. Despite lengthy treatment, rehabilitation and the support of his family and doctors, his body could not withstand it, and the defender’s heart stopped. The announcement stresses that he became yet another victim of the war, which caught up with him away from the front line.
Mourning Valentyn-Leonid are his wife, his guardians — his grandmother and grandfather, his aunt Olena, his cousins, his godparents and his comrades-in-arms.
The Drohobych City Council, its executive committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Secretary of the City Council Orest Karakevych have expressed their condolences to the family, relatives, friends and comrades of the fallen defender.
The Parastas for Valentyn-Leonid Bandrovskyi is scheduled to be held today at 19:00 in the chapel of the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The funeral service will take place tomorrow, 9 July, at 12:00, after which the soldier will be laid to rest in the Alley of Glory.
Eternal memory to the defender of Ukraine Valentyn-Leonid Bandrovskyi.
