On 2 June, during a massive Russian strike on Kyiv and Dnipro, two Ukrainian children were killed. This was reported by the Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Council, Yurii Kholod, citing data from the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
According to the figures provided by the Ombudsman, since the beginning of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation, 707 Ukrainian children have been killed. A further 2,548 children have been wounded, and 2,318 are considered missing.
The youngest of the children killed, as reported by Dmytro Lubinets, was just two days old. The statement stresses that these figures cover only officially confirmed cases, while the real number of those killed and injured may be significantly higher due to the occupation of parts of the territory and ongoing intense fighting.
On 4 June, Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance for Children Who Died as a Result of the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation. On this day, as Yurii Kholod emphasises, every child’s life cut short is remembered, along with all the stories of the young Ukrainians taken by the war.
The post notes that Russian shelling claims children’s lives in residential buildings, hospitals, schools, on playgrounds and in city streets. The author calls on people to remember the names and stories of every child who has been killed and to do everything possible to ensure these crimes are known about across the world.
