On Friday, December 1, Lviv will say goodbye to servicemen Igor Gul and Roman Kleban, who defended Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
At 09:00 a.m. in the Church of the Ascension of the UGCC (Syroka St., 81A) a farewell ceremony will be held for soldier Igor Gul.
The funeral rites of defenders Igor Gul and Roman Kleban will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.
The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.
Biographical references of defenders
Igor Gul (“Kaspar”) (October 22, 1983-November 23, 2023) from Lviv.
Studied at Secondary Secondary School No. 65 of Lviv. He was educated at the Vocational and Technical School No. 26 (today – the State Educational Institution “Lviv Higher Vocational School of Information and Computer Technologies”).
In peacetime, he worked in Germany in the field of transportation. Actively engaged in sports, loved hiking and was fond of cars. He liked to spend time with children. According to the family, everyone was energized by his positivity – Ihor was the true soul of the company.
On the eve of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to the Motherland to issue documents for going abroad for permanent residence. However, the beginning of the war prompted Ihor Gul to join the ranks of the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the “West” Regional Department of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state on the territory of Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.
Ihor Gul was called “Kaspar” by volunteers who regularly supported the unit on the front lines. Despite his health problems, which worsened during the war, he had one of the highest rates of going to positions and diligently trained new soldiers. Volunteered for combat missions.
Ihor Gul died while on duty. His comrades say that he will forever remain in the army.
The Hero is survived by his parents, his wife, four children and a brother.
Roman Kleban (19.08.1980-14.08.2023) was born in Zolochiv, Lviv Region.
Studied at Secondary Secondary School No. 32 of the city of Lviv. In 2002, he graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University, majoring in “Automated control of technological processes” and qualified as “Engineer of automated production control systems”.
After completing his studies, for some time he was engaged in the design of case furniture, later he worked as an engineer for the automation of thermal processes of heating and air conditioning systems at the Private Enterprise “Termocom”. During the last period, Roman Kleban found himself in the projects of the company “IQdim” (“Smart House”).
In his spare time, he was engaged in skiing and cycling, and he was most fond of hiking in the wild nature, for which he independently drew up routes.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to protect the Motherland from the Russian invaders. After completing courses at the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Pyotr Sagaidachny and earning the rank of “junior lieutenant”, he performed combat missions as part of the A4248 military unit. Defended the state in the Bakhmut direction.
Roman Kleban is survived by his parents, his wife, two daughters, a sister with her family, two nephews and four godchildren.
