34 years ago, the Ukrainian flag flew for the first time on the tower of Drogobytsk Town Hall

Today, April 2, is the 34th anniversary of the solemn raising of the national flag of Ukraine in Drohobych.

It was the time of the formation of Ukrainian independence, and Drohobych became one of the first cities of Ukraine to express a clear statist position and the first to raise the blue and yellow symbols of the independent and cathedral Ukrainian state.

Practically the entire composition of deputies of the first democratic convocation, under the leadership of the first mayor Myroslav Hlubiš, was involved in the historic event, who made the relevant decision at the session of the city council.

Under the blue and yellow flag of freedom, the people of Drogobych forever inscribed themselves in the history of Ukraine, as an integral part of the great Ukrainian nation.

Today, on the occasion of celebrating an important historical date for the city, in the Drohobytsk Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul, a thanksgiving liturgy was held, during which the Ukrainian flag was consecrated. Later, the flag was ceremoniously raised on the flagpole of the City Hall.

The raising of the Ukrainian flag was carried out by the first mayor of Drohobych, Myroslav Hlubysh, together with deputies of the 1st democratic convocation.

The event was attended by the current leadership of the community, caring residents and guests of the city, who, after raising the flag, jointly performed the national anthem of Ukraine in the central square of the city.

Also today, residents of Drohobych and guests of the city are invited to recall the state-making events of 34 years ago, to listen to the memories of eyewitnesses and view photos of that time.

The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the library named after Vyacheslav Chornovola in Drohobych.
