Stories from the front: the path from a civilian volunteer to an officer of the Armed Forces in the ranks of the 103rd brigade

The serviceman of the 103rd separate brigade of the Terrodefense Forces with the call sign “Kamenyar” managed to make a real career in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he volunteered to defend the Motherland from the invaders. And in December, he received the primary officer rank of junior lieutenant on the front line.

On the stay-at-home family, modern warfare, and how to become an effective defender – in conversation with a defender:

About the call sign “Kamenyar”:

– The village where I come from is famous for a large number of skilled stone craftsmen, namely stonemasons. For example, the lions at the entrance to the Lviv City Hall were made by our craftsmen. That is why he chose such a nickname for himself.

About why he went to fight:

– I understand very well that it is necessary to protect our land. I know how hard it is. We have been at war for eight years. We are losing fighters, we are losing just very good people. Therefore, it is necessary for someone to take up arms and take their place. We must learn martial arts and reclaim our land. We must do everything so that victory comes faster and we live in a free country.

How education helps in war:

– In war, you have to learn very quickly. You need to be able to react quickly to something. In addition, I have a technical education, and it helps me to cope with my duties. You need to adapt very quickly, find solutions in some non-standard situations, and there are a lot of them. And one of the conclusions that I draw for myself here at the front is that there are no situations from which there is no way out.

We are looking for the enemy and engage artillery to destroy him. I liked this class the most, I started to learn, to study this business, and I started to show results, and I can say that I am good at it.

About the war of technologies:

– The one who has the best technologies, knows how to use them, wins. New technologies help us destroy the enemy with less losses. The Russians really have more equipment and ammunition. For many years, this country invested resources in the future war. However, we outnumber them thanks to the weapons that are transferred to us by our Western partners. It is more accurate, more effective. Thanks to the desire for victory and the ability to quickly learn and flexibly respond to challenges, we identify the enemy faster and destroy him more skillfully. While using less ammunition, however, causing greater losses to the enemy.

About the most impressive moment:

– We saw an enemy tank. They immediately contacted the gunners. Very little time passed after that, and from the first shot, the tank was hit by a high-precision projectile. The aerial reconnaissance crew identified the target, passed it on to me, I coordinated the artillery, and decided to use just such ammunition. And this surprised me: one shot and an immediate hit!

I will return home after victory:

– On February 14, I proposed to my beloved. We were planning a wedding, but the enemy had other plans. But when there was a slight lull at the front, I managed to go home for a few days and we signed with her. And then he went east again. Until there is a victory, I do not plan to return home. I am here, in my place, doing everything that depends on me to win.

Three tips for becoming an effective soldier:

– The most important thing and what should come first is to understand where you are going, why you are doing it and really want it. The second is to be ready for any conditions, for any situations. Be ready not to get lost, but to take control of the situation and bring what you started to completion. After all, as I have already said, there are no hopeless situations. And the third is to be ready to learn, develop, constantly develop your skills and knowledge!
