Lviv Open Lab, a space for the promotion of science and STEAM education, creates the First Youth Laboratory. The opening will take place on Friday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m. at 58 Chervonaya Kalina Avenue. Everyone is invited.
The first youth laboratory will be a place where young people can practice science and have constant access to conducting chemical experiments under the close guidance of scientists.
At 14:00, the official opening will be held with the participation of the mayor. At 2:30 p.m., young people will demonstrate chemical experiments for everyone. After the official part at 15:00, guests will be given a tour of the laboratory and treated to unusual chemical goodies.
The uniqueness of the First Youth Laboratory is that it has professional devices: analytical scales, a water bath, reagents and equipment that are used not only in school laboratories, but also in research laboratories. All devices fully ensure the ergonomics and safety of conducting chemical experiments.
The organizers created the first youth laboratory in almost six months. Grant and city funds were used for its opening. In total, this amount amounted to UAH 600,000.
Visiting the laboratory for young people will be completely free. It is expected that young people from various schools and universities will implement project work here on determining the quality of water, cosmetic chemistry, ecological situation, processing of household waste, or come to the laboratory with their idea.
“The opening of the First Youth Laboratory will meet the need of pupils and students to study chemistry and biotechnology in practice, ensure the integration of internally displaced youth, form a scientific community and overcome the barriers of distance education and gender stereotypes in STEAM education”, says the head of Lviv Open Lab, Olena Pavlyuk .
“In fact, we want this laboratory to become a center not only for conducting student work, but also a place where every student could come and conduct project work with the help of real analytical equipment that is not available in ordinary school laboratories,” says the resident of the laboratory, a chemist Mykola Lekhnovskyi.
The project of the First Youth Laboratory is implemented by Lviv Open Lab – a space for the popularization of science and STEAM – education, which is part of the network of youth spaces CREATE!
