On August 6, 2024, the Murovany Starosta District commemorated the victims of the destroyed village of Bezuiv.
At the site of the burned Bezuiv, a prayer service was held in the chapel on the site of the former village and a tombstone was consecrated to the fighters for the freedom of Ukraine. Father Oleksiy Yavorsky, Father Yuriy Zahoruyko, and Father Pavlo Vasylyshyn served the prayer service and memorial service.
The head of the Belz community, Oksana Bereza, welcomed the audience and emphasized the importance of remembering the price of independence:
“We have no right to forget how the imperial regimes destroyed our people. We are committed to maintaining the memory of the terrible events of the last century. Those who do not know their history are doomed to oblivion. Let us remember our Heroes, let us remember those who left their homes here in Bezuiv. Thank you to everyone who joined this veche today, and thank you to everyone who contributed to the construction of the chapel on the site of the former village and this grave.”
The assembly was attended by the amateur group “Kalynova Pisnya” from Sebechiv, the choir of the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Cross of the OCU in Murovane, the choir of the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Cross of the Catholic parish of Murovane, the choir of the Church of St. Nicholas of the OCU in Belz.
The audience was also addressed by Father Oleksiy Yavorsky, Father Pavlo Vasylyshyn, and Hanna Shlyuz-Romanchuk, a resident of Bezuiv, founder of the chapel in Bezuiv and the grave of the fighters for the freedom of Ukraine.
It is worth noting that this year Ms. Hanna will turn 90 years old. As the woman herself noted, she was only 12 years old when she was evicted from Bezuiv, but she has carried the memories of her native village throughout her life.
We would like to thank the Department of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of the Belz City Council represented by its head Maria Hrementa, the utility company Belzkomunservice represented by its acting director Oleksandr Gbur, the head of the Murovane starosta district Oksana Mykhnych, the head of the Murovane gymnasium Yaroslav Shopiak, the head of the Murovane village folk house Oksana Kryl, the residents of the Murovane starosta district, and all concerned community members for their assistance in organizing the event.
