Cultural heritage sites are being digitized in Lviv

3D scanning of architectural monuments is carried out in Lviv. Laser scanning allows you to capture all the parameters of the monument and, in case of destruction, open an exact copy.

Such works, for the needs of restoration, began in the city before the war, and in today’s conditions they are especially relevant. And if earlier drones were used for modern documentation of objects, now drones can be used only in interiors.

“3D scanning is a very necessary thing. It must be had in case of armed conflict and destruction. After all, this is the documentation that can then be used to recreate the memo. It is also a good tool for restoration work. We can be based on it in the preparation of design and estimate documentation.

Previously, such 3D scanning was performed during design instead of traditional measurements, but now we do it on the most important sights. In today’s conditions, the use of drones is limited. Therefore, scanning is performed by other methods, but drones are used in interiors, “said Lilia Onyschenko, head of the LMR’s Department of Historic Environment Protection.

Today, the city has mostly digitized unique attractions. Among them are the Dominican and Bernardine churches, the Boim and Sixtian chapels, etc.

Digitization of cultural heritage sites is carried out from extra-budgetary funds. “This is not done at the expense of the city, but at the expense of benefactors. In Lviv, we have at least 2-3 companies that can perform these scans, “Lilia Onyschenko added.
