Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office, a state inspector of one of the departments of the Lviv Customs was exposed and served a notice of suspicion. She is charged with obtaining an unlawful benefit, committed repeatedly (Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect implemented a scheme of systematic bribery. She received the bribe for ensuring the understatement of the customs value of goods imported across the customs border of Ukraine, namely auto parts.
The amount of the bribe ranged from UAH 4,000 to UAH 8,000, depending on the quantity of goods.
The suspect was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after receiving another illegal benefit.
During the searches of the woman’s place of residence, the SBU found and seized cash totaling over UAH 170,000.
The investigation is ongoing. The issues of choosing a custody as a measure of restraint and removing her from office are being decided.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is being conducted by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police of the region, based on the materials of the SBU Office in Lviv region. The operation was conducted with the assistance of the Department of Departmental Security and Control of the State Customs Service.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
