As part of international cooperation with the participation of juvenile prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a French citizen was notified of a suspicion of violating traffic safety rules, which caused the death of two minors (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in July 2020, the suspect went on vacation with a Ukrainian woman and her two daughters. On the Kyiv-Chop highway, the suspect violated traffic rules, drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a truck. As a result of the collision, the car he was driving was torn in half. One girl died at the scene, her sister died in the hospital after some time.
After the accident, the foreigner was hospitalized in a Ukrainian hospital, after which he was sent to his homeland for treatment. Therefore, the prosecutors went to the French Republic, where, together with local law enforcement officers, they ensured that the suspect was served with a notice of suspicion of committing a crime.
The pre-trial investigation continues. The criminal proceedings are under the control of the regional prosecutor’s office.
The investigation is being carried out by the investigators of the State Department of the State of Ukraine in the Lviv region.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
