At night on Shevchenka Street, at about 4 a.m., the driver of a VAZ car knocked down a road sign. The incident was discovered by a patrol police crew.
A 23-year-old man was standing next to the car. He initially denied that he had been behind the wheel, but later admitted that he had been driving the vehicle and had only a few hundred metres left to get home.
The police noted signs of alcohol intoxication in the driver. The man refused to undergo a drink-driving test. He tried to come to an arrangement with the officers so that they would let him go, but to no avail.
It turned out that this driver had previously been held liable for driving a vehicle while intoxicated. He did not want yet another report because he was planning to obtain a driving licence.
As a result, the patrol officers issued the driver with reports under Part 1 of Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (driving a vehicle with signs of alcohol intoxication) and under Article 124 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (violation of traffic rules that led to a road traffic accident), as well as a penalty notice under Part 2 of Article 126 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (driving a vehicle without having the right to do so).
