Under the procedural supervision of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office, a group of people was served a notice of suspicion of purchasing, storing and selling firearms and ammunition without a permit (Part 2 Article 28, Part 1 Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, a resident of Rivne region and a couple from Lviv region set up an illegal sale of firearms and ammunition.
To do this, they placed ads for the sale of “goods” on a specialised website on the Internet. After payment to the card, the orders were sent to the “customers” by mail.
The suspects were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after another arms sale.
During the searches at the suspects’ residences, the SBU found and seized a batch of assault rifles and pistols with components, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition of various calibres. Almost UAH 10 million and 2 cars were also seized.
The investigation is ongoing. A number of examinations have been ordered.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Sambir District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with operational support provided by the above-mentioned police department and the Department of Criminal Investigation of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
