Under the procedural guidance of the Frankiv District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv, a 35-year-old woman was notified of suspicion of fraud (Part 2, Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in August of this year, a resident of Kyiv defrauded a 90-year-old woman.
The woman from Lviv was allegedly called by a doctor who told her “unfortunate news”, however, that her son had been in an accident and needed urgent, expensive treatment. Also, the latter said that there is a person who can immediately come to collect the money and transfer it to the hospital.
The frightened old woman agreed, believing that in this way she was saving her son.
After the call, the suspect came to the pensioner’s home and she handed over all the available cash – UAH 35,000.
Only after that, the woman called her relatives and realized that she had been deceived.
During the investigation, mobile phones and part of the victim’s money were seized from the suspect.
Investigations are ongoing.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Department of the National Police in the Lviv Region.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
