In the Sykhiv district of Lviv, three more local residents have been detained following unrest near the territorial recruitment centre. This was reported under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, two men aged 21 and 28 are suspected of organising and inciting those present to commit unlawful acts. The investigation believes they took an active part in damaging a service SUV belonging to servicemen of the Sykhiv District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre: they blocked the vehicle’s movement, jumped on it and later overturned it.
The third detainee is a 45-year-old Lviv resident. It has been recorded that he provoked a conflict with a serviceman of the recruitment centre, and when he did not receive the reaction he expected, he began to use force: he grabbed the serviceman, tried to tear off his uniform and continued to verbally abuse him. All those detained live in the same neighbourhood.
At present, a decision is being made on whether to notify them of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations) and on the choice of preventive measures. Earlier, a 23-year-old Lviv resident was also detained; during the incident he used a gas spray against police officers and inflicted bodily injuries on one of the law enforcement officers, as a result of which the officer sustained head injuries.
During the incident involving servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, police officers and about 200 civilians, a KIA SORENTO vehicle belonging to the servicemen was blocked, damaged and overturned. During attempts by the police to stop the unlawful actions, some participants offered resistance. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Lviv Region and the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv Region; investigative actions are ongoing and other persons involved are being identified.
In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
