In Lviv, a 33-year-old local resident has been sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of a series of property offences. This was reported by the Halytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv.
The court established that at the end of August last year, in a courtyard in Lychakivskyi district of Lviv, the convicted man stole a mobile phone and a bank card from a man; the card was in the phone case. That same evening, taking advantage of the absence of a password, he used a banking app to transfer 10,000 UAH from the victim’s card to his own account.
Approximately a week and a half later, in the city centre, the man robbed another passer-by, snatching a phone from his hands. Shortly after the robbery, law enforcement officers identified and detained the perpetrator. It transpired that he was a Lviv resident who had previously been repeatedly prosecuted for property offences. The total amount of damage caused to the two victims is almost 19,000 UAH.
He was charged with theft, robbery, misappropriation of an official document for personal gain, and unauthorised interference with the operation of information (automated) systems under Part 4 of Article 185, Part 4 of Article 186, Part 1 of Article 357, and Part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation in the proceedings was carried out by Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region. The court verdict will enter into legal force after the expiry of the time limit for lodging an appeal.
