Detention of Offender for Sexual Harassment of a Child in Sheptytskyi District

Police Arrest Man for Sexual Harassment of 12-Year-Old Girl

In the Sheptytskyi district, police arrested an offender who sexually harassed a 12-year-old girl. Fortunately, due to the daughter’s trusting relationship with her mother and the professional work of law enforcement officers, the child did not suffer any harm. By court decision, the detainee remains in custody. For his actions, he faces punishment of up to six years imprisonment.

Crime Details

The police established that the offender, a 44-year-old resident of the district, met the 12-year-old girl on a social network. Over a few days of correspondence, he sent the child photos and videos of a sexual nature, made indecent proposals, and attempted to organize a personal meeting to satisfy his sexual needs.

Fortunately, the girl had a trusting relationship with her mother and told her about her new acquaintance. The woman, in turn, reported this to the police. When the offender ‘arranged’ a meeting with the child, he was awaited at the location by criminal police operatives and investigators from the Sheptytskyi district police department.

Legal Consequences

The suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators informed him of the suspicion of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 156-1 (Grooming of a Child for Sexual Purposes) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment from three to six years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

The pre-trial investigation continues, and by court decision, the suspect remains in custody.

Police once again remind parents of the need to build friendly and trusting relationships with children. Your son or daughter should not be afraid to share their problems and experiences with you, report new suspicious people they have met in person or online. If you become aware that your underage or minor child is communicating with strangers on sexual topics, report it to the police – this way, you can prevent a sexual crime against your child or protect them from other problems.
