Two people, including a minor, die in water incidents in Lviv region in 24 hours

Over a 24-hour period, two people died in bodies of water in the Lviv region, among them a 14-year-old teenager. The circumstances of the incidents are being established by police investigators.

According to law enforcement officers, on 25 June at around 18:00, a 14-year-old resident of Novoyavorivsk drowned while swimming in Lake “Pishchanske” near Novoyavorivsk. The same day, a 32-year-old resident of the Sheptytskyi district died in the intensive care unit of a hospital, where he had been taken by medics after drowning in a body of water in the village of Stanyn in the Sheptytskyi district.

In both cases, investigators from territorial police units have opened criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, classifying them as an accident. Pre-trial investigations are under way.

Police in the Lviv region urge citizens to follow safety rules near bodies of water to avoid injuries and fatalities, particularly among children. It is recommended to swim only in specially designated areas, not to enter the water alone, not to leave children without adult supervision, not to allow children who cannot swim to enter the water without accompaniment, not to swim beyond buoys, to use inflatable mattresses with care, to refrain from consuming alcohol while relaxing, and to avoid dangerous jumps into the water.

In an emergency, law enforcement officers advise calling 102 immediately.
