The meeting was chaired by the head of NEC “Ukrenergo” and the head of Lviv OVA.
The preparation of the region’s energy system for the autumn-winter period was discussed today, August 18, at a meeting in the Lviv Regional Military Administration chaired by the head of the Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi and the chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo” Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Oblastenergo, Vodokanal, Teplokomunenergo, other critical infrastructure facilities of the region, State Emergency Service and representatives of businesses – large consumers of electricity.
Last fall and winter, the energy system of Lviv Oblast was one of the priority targets of missile and drone attacks by the aggressor country. The number of hits on energy facilities is commensurate with the damage in the front-line areas.
During the meeting, representatives of energy companies and critical infrastructure facilities informed about the liquidation of the consequences of large-scale attacks and preparations for the upcoming heating season, scenarios and mechanisms of backup power schemes in Lviv Region. There is a common understanding that critical infrastructure facilities should be protected by autonomous power sources in case of new attacks and possible outages.
Mechanisms of object protection were also discussed.
“Last year, the Ukrainian energy system began to work synchronously with the energy system of continental Europe, and this opened the possibility of importing electricity from Europe to Ukraine in case of need. This is an additional resource to avoid outages in the event of new attacks by an aggressor country, which became available thanks to the synchronization of the Ukrainian and European power grids in March 2022,” stressed Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, head of NEC Ukrenergo.
The head of Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytskyi emphasized: “There is a common understanding that the next heating season will be difficult. We have no illusions about the intentions of the aggressor country. We see that NEC Ukrenergo supplies its substations with equipment and materials for restoration in order to increase the available capacity in the power system of Lviv Oblast. For their part, local companies are doing everything possible to prepare their facilities. The probability of new attacks is high, so our readiness for possible forced shutdowns must be high.”
