Traditionally, after the end of the Christmas holidays in Lviv, centralized collection points for Christmas trees begin to operate so that residents can hand them over for disposal. Compost will be made from the collected conifers – an organic fertilizer that will be used in the future to fertilize the land when planting trees or flowers.
“The Christmas cycle of holidays ended earlier this year, so we are starting to collect Christmas trees sooner. The Department of Waste Management, together with the “Green City” LCP and the “Green Lviv” LCP, as last year, organized centralized collection points for Christmas trees. Six locations will be open on January 8 and 13.
I would like to note that Christmas trees are green waste, not solid household waste, so it is necessary to dispose of it properly and profitably,” says Roman Yatsikovich, Head of the Department of Communication and Education of the Waste Management Department.
Therefore, residents of Lviv can leave conifers at the container sites at the following addresses:
- St. Vyhovsky, 34 (On the site near Zaliznychna RA) – January 13;
- St. Volodymyr Veliky, 14a (entrance to the Cinema Center located in the park “Goryhovy Gai”) – January 13;
- St. Hotkevicha – the entrance to the park named after Pope John Paul II, near the Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin – January 8 and 13;
- St. Tatarska, 4-8 (near the container yard) – January 8 and 13;
- St. 2 Grabovskoho Street (near the container yard) – January 8 and 13;
- St. Shafarika, January 16 – 8 and 13.
Residents of the community can also bring conifers to the composting station on the street. Plastova, 13, in LKP “Green Lviv”, at the address of st. Zamarstynivska, 167a, or bring it to the “Lvivspetskomuntrans” LKP on the street. Zhovkivska, 18. You can bring Christmas trees on working days – from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
As Natalya Senyk, head of the department for organizing the separate collection of food waste at the “Green City” LLP, explains, the Christmas tree must be brought without any decorations and packaging material – laces, wires, polyethylene balls. Compost will be made from conifers.
“Compost is an organic fertilizer, which in the future is used to fertilize the land when planting trees or flowers, vegetables, fruits, etc. Compost is often bought by private estates, and our compost has become useful for planting trees and bushes in Lviv.
Let me remind you that last year we received 29 tons of Christmas trees for disposal. In general, our composting station processes all organic waste collected separately by residents and various structures of the city. These are food products, twigs, leaves,” said Natalya Senyk, head of the department for organizing the separate collection of food waste at the Green City LLP.
