In Lviv, a city house of supported living for people with disabilities is being created

The “Jerelo” Center is creating a municipal house of supported living for adults with disabilities who have lost their parents or guardians, or who wish to live separately from them, on Pasichnaya Street in Lviv. After all, such a house is a worthy alternative to psychoneurological dispensaries and geriatric centers.

“The base for the ramp for the accessibility of the building is already visible, most of the windows have been replaced, the foundation has been strengthened, internal work is being done to strengthen the walls and we are preparing elevator shafts, and there are even foundations for large windows that will lead to the terrace. This part of the work was carried out with the financial support of the family of Mykhailo and Petra Zachkevych and friends from Germany and Caritas international”, – the source notes.

In total, more than 30% of the works have been completed.

We will remind you that a house of supported living is a space equipped for living 20 adults with disabilities and assistants who will help them in everyday life. The premises consists of a basement and two floors, and it is planned to equip rooms, a kitchen, a dining room, bathrooms and an elevator. It is also planned to additionally build an inclusive public space for joint activities of people with disabilities and residents, holding day workshops on art therapy, joint movie screenings and workshops.

It should be noted that the assisted living facility is one of the winners of the Public Budget projects implemented in 2021: more than 4,600 people voted for the project.

certificate

Supported living is the shared living of a small group of adults with disabilities in a special building under the care of assistants (hired workers). They are constantly close to their wards, help in everyday life (cook food, clean, perform hygiene procedures, etc.), as well as with moving around the city (to work, study, to family, etc.). At the same time, each inhabitant of the house has sufficient freedom and does everything he can on his own. This is very important, because it allows people with disabilities to feel in control of their own lives, to be socialized, to work and even to help others.
