A memorial to the liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will be unveiled in Drohobych

37 years ago, Ukraine was shaken by the greatest man-made disaster in the history of nuclear energy. Due to the negligence and silence of the Soviet authorities about the scale of the problem, the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant took the lives and health of tens of thousands of people, and mankind is still reaping its consequences.

On December 14, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Commemoration of the participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP, also known as the Liquidator’s Day.

On this sad day in Drohobych, the memory of the people who extinguished the fire at the Chornobyl NPP at the cost of their lives and health will be honored.

In addition to the commemorative event, a memorial sign to the liquidators of Chernobyl will be unveiled on Zvarytskyi Street.

The sign will be unveiled on Thursday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m.

The number of victims as a result of the Chernobyl disaster was difficult to estimate. International organizations claim that tens of thousands of people died among the liquidators alone. In addition, tens of thousands of cases of congenital pathologies in newborns, tens of thousands of cancer cases caused by radioactive exposure have been documented in Europe.
