In Lviv Oblast, they presented dishes traditional for the region, which can become intangible heritage of UNESCO

On the Day of Tourism in Lviv, a gastronomic evening “Gastro-heritage of the Lviv region: the path to UNESCO” was held.

The purpose of the event is to present at the restaurant level traditional dishes typical of the Lviv region, which make up the intangible heritage of Ukraine and, as a result, to create the basis for including these dishes in the intangible heritage of UNESCO.

“Its architecture, local population, as well as its traditional cuisine help create an impression of each state. Lviv Oblast was and remains an attractive tourist region for tourists from abroad, but a small number of them know what dishes our region is famous for. The combination of ancient cooking traditions and the sophistication of modern presentation will allow to show all the richness of Ukrainian cuisine to a wide international audience. Yavorivsky pie recently became an object of intangible heritage of Ukraine, now it’s time to include it in the UNESCO heritage,” said the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytskyi.

He also emphasized that since February 24, the field of tourism has changed the vector of its work, because every employee of the industry felt social responsibility and tried to do everything possible to ensure victory. I also mentioned the tourism workers who took up arms and defended our country.

On the occasion of a significant contribution to the development of the tourism industry of Lviv region, the head of the region presented thanks to:

Ihor Skobyuk – director of PARK 3020 LLC;
Viktor Barannik – co-founder of the NGO “Veterans Forward”;
Andriy Yurkevich – to the head of the NGO “Tourist Information Center”;
Ivan Mychko – FOP tourist club “Vatra”;
Svitlana Merzlovia – founder of the NGO “The Universe with Ukraine”, head of the Committee on Tourism and Hotel Business of the Women’s Business Chamber of Ukraine;

Mykhailo Shyshka – head of the recreation department of the Northern Podillia National Nature Park;
Nadiya Kozar – head of the humanitarian policy department of the Drogobytsk RVA;
Kuksi Maryani – the leading inspector of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Lviv Oblast;
Yuliya Stukalo – chief specialist of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Lviv Oblast.

The event began with a tasting of Galician cuisine. The participants of the event had the opportunity to treat themselves to Yavorivsky pie, potato slices according to an old Galician recipe, and bagels with rose jam.

“I sincerely believe that we will be able to add Yavorivskyi pie to the UNESCO heritage, that Yavorivskyi pie will appear on our tables more often, that more and more restaurateurs will include it in their menus. This story is not only about cuisine and dishes, it is about the economic development of the region, the traditions of our ancestors and world recognition at the international level,” emphasized Natalya Tabaka, head of the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Lviv OVA.

Afterwards, there was a discussion with the leading restaurateurs of the Lviv region regarding the prospect of introducing Yavorivskyi pie into the menu of public catering establishments.

For reference:

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the field of tourism began to provide IDPs with hot lunches in places of temporary settlement. In total, in partnership with World Central Kitchen, it was possible to prepare 5.5 million hot meals and provide 395 tons of food products.

Despite the war and the difficult economic situation, tourism projects were implemented in the Lviv Region. Therefore, they opened the first 15-meter observation tower in Ukraine with a panorama of the Carpathians, organized the project “Summer without worries” for temporarily displaced children from orphanages and boarding schools, during which young Ukrainians explored the Lviv Region and the project “History of the Second Home”, during which IDPs talk about the traditions, culture and history of Lviv Oblast.
