In Lviv, the possibility of creating an economic zone near the airport instead of residential development is being considered. This could provide up to 10,000 jobs. The city opposes the residential complex on the territory of Sokilnyky, which borders the airport, and offers an alternative in the form of an economic zone.
On behalf of the ministry, British engineering consultancy and architectural companies are working on a development concept for the area near the airport. They believe this area is conducive to the economic development of the region. Residential development could limit the airport’s growth and make its future expansion impossible.
The chief architect of Lviv, Anton Kolomeytsev, emphasises that the airport is critically important infrastructure for the city and the country. The city urges the landowner to abandon residential construction to preserve the area for airport expansion.
The Deputy Mayor of Lviv, Lyubomyr Zubach, notes that the development of business and logistics is a global practice, and the Lviv agglomeration has all the prerequisites for implementing such a model. The city is ready for dialogue with the developer and offers to consider the possibility of providing an alternative land plot for residential construction.
The final concept, after refinement, is planned to be presented at an international forum in London, which will be an opportunity to attract international investors to Ukraine.
