In Lviv, at 259 Lychakivska Street, work has been completed on a new public space on a plot of land where an illegally constructed seven-storey building once stood. This new build was demolished around seven years ago, and the freed-up area was transferred into the city’s municipal ownership. The implementation of the project was announced by the Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning, Liubomyr Zubach.
A recreational area for residents has been created on the site: a new children’s playground with wooden elements has been installed, along with greenery and benches, forming a fully fledged public space.
“You cannot put up a multi-storey block without a single document and expect that somehow it will all work out — that it will be legalised. It was not legalised; it was demolished. The freed-up plot of land was transferred into the city’s municipal ownership. And a public space for people has been created on it” — Liubomyr Zubach
According to the official, the comfortable recreational area was delivered using investor funds. This is a case of socio-economic partnership: a developer with projects nearby financed the creation of the space as part of a city initiative.
As part of the works, a model children’s playground made from natural materials has been installed, convenient benches have been put in place, and new trees and shrubs have been planted. On the side facing Lychakivska Street, a public transport stop has been arranged, and along the road on Poludneva Street several parking spaces have been created, paved with eco-friendly blocks.
The city authorities also remind residents that a similar public space has been upgraded on Zaklynskykh Street, near the Znesinnia cemetery. There, using funds from the investor TzOV “Oresta”, a new terminus for public transport has already been installed, a parking area has been created, the road surface has been renewed and new urban amenities have been put in place.
