In Lviv, a project for a new pedestrian space, set to be created on the site of the former ‘Dobrobut’ market, has been presented. The winner of the architectural competition was the “Urbanideas” team led by Olha Kryvoruchko. Her previous projects have adorned city squares such as Mytna and Koliyivshchyna.
The main idea of the project is to connect small green areas into a large space, which will integrate heritage sites in accordance with the competition’s requirements. According to Lviv’s chief architect Anton Kolomeytsev, the project showcases a comprehensive space development that takes into account seasonal conditions, including the planting of 245 new trees.
It has been proposed to use drainage, rain gardens, and other elements to support landscape architecture, which will ensure a high-quality and sustainable infrastructure in the urban environment. Architect Olha Kryvoruchko emphasised creating a pedestrian zone that considers inclusivity and the memory of the place.
The project also envisions transforming unfinished elements of the area into an underground car park with a shelter and creating a venue for art events at Osmomysla Square. The city council is working on legal aspects concerning the land ownership of the former market.
