Drohobych hosted a delegation from Poland during the national holidays

During the biggest national holidays in Ukraine, Drohobych traditionally welcomes foreign delegations. These days, the city of Kotermak is hosting honoured guests from the Miejsce Piastowe Commune, led by Mayor Viktor Skwara.

Yesterday, 22 August, the delegation was hospitably received at the City Council. The guests were greeted by the Mayor of Drohobych Taras Kuchma and his deputy Yuriy Kushlyk. Representatives of the city council’s structural units, as well as Father Ivan Pankiv and the chairman of the Ivan Franko Foundation, Mykhailo Kravets, also joined the conversation.

First of all, Taras Perkhun, Chief Specialist of the Economic Department, and Yurii Yatskiv, Energy Manager, presented the guests with the community’s potential, and told them about international partnerships and projects that have been implemented. They also touched upon the issues of energy independence in the communal sector and the work being done in this direction. In particular, the installation of a SPP on the roof of the hospital and participation in the project to install a SPP at the Urizh water intake.

We are impressed by your perseverance and hard work. Despite the full-scale invasion, your healthcare, digitalisation, and education are very well developed. Your city is a great example of how to effectively cooperate with international organisations and municipalities. You have ambitious goals aimed at developing your community and making life comfortable for its residents. We hope that our cooperation with you will be effective and beneficial for both parties.” – addressed the audience the Mayor of the Miejsce Piastowe Commune, Viktor Skwara.

During the meeting, the Mayor of Drohobych also told the delegation that the city is actively working to build housing for internally displaced persons who have been relocated to our community. Thus, the head of the community spoke about the reconstructed dormitory with 32 rooms in Stebnyk, and the 12-apartment modular-frame house for IDPs on Pylyp Orlyk Street. They also spoke about their immediate plans – the construction of another similar building on Pylyp Orlyka Street and the reconstruction of one floor of a building on Fabrychna Street.

All this work would not have been possible without the support and assistance of our international partners. We thank our friends from Bytom, Move Ukraine, NEEKA and others. All these collaborations result in a long-term solution to the problem. For us, these are very valuable initiatives, so we are ready to support them and, for our part, make efforts to attract other funds to accumulate as many resources as possible. We are open to new partnerships and are confident that our cooperation will be beneficial for both communities.” – said Taras Kuchma, Mayor of Drohobych.

Following the dialogue, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Drohobych community and the Małeście Piastowe Commune.

In addition, the delegation also visited Lyceum No. 3, Drohobych City Hospital No. 1, the Alley of Glory, where the fallen Heroes are buried, and the Alley of Memory.
