On Wednesday, 5 June, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Oleh Solotynskyi and Ivan Chornyi, who were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine.
Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
In the morning, at 09:00, the funeral service for soldier Oleh Solotynskyi will take place in the Chapel of the Nativity of St John the Baptist (31 Kobyltsy Street).
The funeral service for the defenders Oleh Solotynskyi and Ivan Chornyi will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul (11 Teatralna St.), at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.
At 12:30, a prayer for the soldier Ivan Chorny will be held near his home in Dubliany (29 Shevchenko Street). Afterwards, at 13:00, there will be a prayer in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC (Khmelnytskoho Street, 2), and at 13:45, the funeral service for Ivan Chornyi will begin at the local cemetery (intersection of Sadova and Stefanyk streets).
Soldier Ivan Chornyi will be buried at the local cemetery in Dubliany, and soldier Oleh Solotynskyi will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.
Biographical references of the defenders
Oleh Solotynskyi (02.04.1977-07.03.2022). A native of the town of Lanivtsi, Ternopil region.
He studied at the Yuriy Koval Lanovets Secondary School No. 1. Subsequently, Oleh Solotynskyi’s family moved to Lviv, where he graduated from Lyceum No. 45 of the Lviv City Council. Later he studied at Chernihiv Law College.
During 2014-2016, he performed missions in the area of the anti-terrorist operation: first as part of the 66th military mobile hospital, and later – the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo.
After returning to civilian life, he worked in the field of property protection in Lviv. In his spare time, he was fond of collecting postage stamps and coins, and loved to cook. According to his family, he was a true patriot of his country.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Oleh Solotynskyi is survived by his parents, wife, daughter and sisters.
Ivan Chornyi (20.01.1999-30.05.2024). A resident of Lviv.
He studied at the Dubliany Basic Lyceum named after the Hero of Ukraine Anatoliy Zhalovaha of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from Lviv Higher Vocational School of Trade and Services.
After graduation, he started his career in the restaurant industry in Lviv. Later, he joined the 101st Separate General Staff Security Brigade named after Colonel-General Gennadiy Vorobyov for regular military service.
After returning to Lviv, he worked as a cook at the local pub “Lazy Dog”. In his free time, he was fond of sports, including all-around, running, volleyball and football. According to his family, Ivan Chornyi was very friendly, always smiling and never refused to help others.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he volunteered to defend his homeland from the occupiers. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state as a member of the 63rd separate mechanised brigade of the Reserve Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought against the invaders in Mykolaiv, Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv regions and was awarded numerous decorations for personal courage.
Ivan Chornyi is survived by his grandmother, mother, sister, uncle, godfather, cousin and girlfriend.
