Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defender Andriy Antonyshchak

On Friday, March 29, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Andriy Antonyshchak, who defended Ukraine from Russian occupiers. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

The defender’s biographical information

Andriy Antonyshchak (23.06.1969-27.03.2024) was born in the city of Novyi Rozdil, Lviv region.

He studied at the Novyi Rozdil secondary school No. 3 named after Andrii Herhert. In 1986, he entered the Lviv Technical School of Mechanical Wood Processing (today – Separate Structural Subdivision “Technological Professional College of the National Forestry University of Ukraine”). Later, he graduated from the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management.

He began his career in 1991, was engaged in private entrepreneurship, and also held senior positions in commercial organizations.

He was a Member of Parliament of the 8th convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, headed the Subcommittee on Legal Support of Customs Authorities of the Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy. He founded the public organization “I am a Lviv citizen”.

Colonel. An active participant of the Revolution of Dignity, he was a centurion of the 9th Maidan self-defense unit. Later, he volunteered to defend his homeland and was one of the founders of the operational battalion named after Hero of Ukraine Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he performed combat missions as part of the National Guard of Ukraine, participated in the battles for Kyiv, Sievierodonetsk and other hotspots in the eastern part of Ukraine. During the last period, he defended the state in Zaporizhzhia region. For his personal courage, he was awarded numerous decorations, including the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky of the II and III degrees. Andriy Antonyshchak died on March 27, suffering from serious health problems that were undermined by the war.

The hero is survived by his parents, wife, two children and a brother.
