Tomorrow, February 24, 2024, on the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukrainian lands, the community of Sokal will meet the body of the fallen Hero Yuriy Kapleta.

February 24-25 is declared the Day of Mourning in the Sokal community for the fallen Yuriy Kapleta
We ask the community to postpone all daily activities and at 15.00. The community is asked to put aside their daily activities and meet the Hero with flags, flowers, and lamps in a “living corridor” near the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul. Immediately after the arrival of the funeral cortege, a parastasis will be held in the room of sorrow.
The funeral of the Hero Yuriy Kapleta will begin on Sunday, February 25, at 14.00 in the Church of St. Peter and Paul. Yuriy will find his eternal rest on the Walk of Fame at the city cemetery.

Yuriy Kapleta was a defender, public figure, volunteer, and patriot of Ukraine. He was born on December 3, 1986 in the city of Sokal. He studied at Sokal secondary school № 5. From the first days of the Revolution of Dignity, he fought for the European future on the Independence Square in Kyiv. He participated in the creation of the 10th Hundred of the Maidan Self-Defense. He held the position of a tensman, was responsible for the protection of the 1st and 2nd floors of the Trade Union Building. He took an active part in the events that took place on the Maidan.
