A Transformer Ramp for People with Disabilities to Be Installed at Lviv’s Garrison Church

The Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul UGCC in Lviv will be the first church in the city to install a transformer ramp. This unique innovation aims to create a barrier-free environment, ensuring independent access to the church for wheelchair users.

The ramp is scheduled to be installed by the end of the year. Its design allows the stairs to transform into a platform that elevates to the church floor level at the push of a button. Safety is ensured through special backrests, while motion-sensor-activated automatic doors will provide effortless entry.

An Innovative Solution for the Historic Center
Due to the architectural constraints of Lviv’s central area, a traditional ramp was deemed unsuitable. According to the church pastor, Father Taras Mykhalchuk, the solution was found in Denmark. The transformer ramp minimizes interference with the church’s structure, preserving its historic authenticity.

“Our goal is to make the church accessible to everyone, especially for people with disabilities, who will be able to enter independently,” Father Taras emphasized.

Previous Inclusivity Initiatives
The Garrison Church has already implemented another inclusivity-focused project. A tactile model of the church was installed for visually impaired visitors, enabling them to explore the architecture through touch and Braille.

These initiatives mark significant progress in creating an accessible environment that meets the needs of all visitors.
