Lviv Oblast strengthens the status of the region-leader in terms of the number and pace of transformation of personal peasant farms into family farms (FFG).
This is reported by the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of Lviv Oblast.
As of May 1, 2023, 127 SFGs of various activities were registered in the Lviv region.
It is noted that this figure increased by 30% in the first 4 months of 2023 alone.
The specialization of registered family farms is as follows:
54% of farms are engaged in crop production, including horticulture and vegetable growing; 46% are engaged in animal husbandry, in particular keeping dairy cows.
According to the department’s monitoring data, the total number of cows in the SFG is about 930 heads, which is less than 2% of the total number of cows kept in households. But it is this small segment that shows significant rates of growth. Against the background of a decline in the number of cows in households, this indicator has increased 4.5 times in 4 years in SFG.
The department is confident that such an increase in the number of SFGs in the region is facilitated by a systematic approach to financial support of these business entities at the state and regional levels, as well as by MTD projects. Even before the full-scale invasion at the state level, the EUV reimbursement for the SFG was implemented. During the full-scale invasion, family farms in the Lviv region had the opportunity to receive a double subsidy for the existing herd of cows – through the DAR and the Comprehensive Program to Support Agricultural Producers of the Lviv Region.
It is reported that this year Lviv Oblast is the only region that will continue to provide subsidies for increasing the number of cows from the regional budget. Subsidies for existing livestock will also be provided through DAR.
“Financial support programs remain the main incentive for registering new family farms and increasing the number of cows in the commercial sector. We hope that this trend will strengthen from year to year, and in the end we will be able to solve the main problem of the region’s dairy industry – the increase in the supply of commercial batches of high-quality and “extra” milk – noted the director of the department of agro-industrial development of Lviv OVA Tetyana Hetman.
We would like to remind you that in 2023, within the framework of the Comprehensive Program to Support Agricultural Producers of Lviv Oblast, UAH 9 million is provided for the provision of subsidies for livestock growth in existing and newly established micro and small agricultural enterprises. The total budget of the program is UAH 34.2 million.
