The Ukrainian Youth Fencing Championship was held in Kyiv. Participants competed in foils, swords and sabers.

In the men’s individual competition in the foil (individual) category, Lev Maistrenko, who trains at the Demianiuk Sports School under the guidance of Volodymyr Svystil, took first place. The second place went to Maksym Hula, who trains at the School of Sports and Physical Education under the tutelage of coaches Andrii Orlikovskyi and Zoryana Semeriak.
In the men’s team epee competition, the second place went to the team consisting of Danylo Voinov, Maksym Hula, Vladyslav Nazarevych and Lev Maistrenko. The team was coached by Dina Panteleyeva, Andriy Orlikovsky and Volodymyr Svystil.
In the women’s individual epee competition, Anna Maksymenko took first place, Alina Dmytruk second, and Victoria Myliavska third. They were trained by Andriy Orlikovsky and Zoryana Semeryak.
In the women’s team epee competition, the third place went to the team consisting of Zlata Haiduk, Alina Dmytruk, Yelyzaveta-Olha Korniichuk, and Anna Maksymenko. They were coached by Andrii Orlikovskyi together with Zoryana Semeriak.
In the men’s individual foil competition, Yanislav Koretsky from the Athlete Sports School, coached by Victoria Buneyeva, took third place.
“The Lviv region and Lviv in particular have quite a long and historically stable tradition of fencing. The first fencing club in Lviv was established in 1848, and in 1894, under the Ukrainian gymnastic society Sokil, fencing sections began to function in other cities of the then Galicia. Speaking in the context of the present, the greatest success is the gold medal of our fencer Yana Shemialyina at the London Olympics. Today, we see a rapid growth of the younger generation of athletes,” adds Roman Khimyak, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Administration.
