Weightlifters from Lviv region won 24 medals at the Ukrainian Junior and Youth Championships

The Ukrainian weightlifting championship among juniors under 20 and youth under 23 took place in Lutsk from 1 to 7 July. The competition was attended by 235 weightlifters from 19 regions of Ukraine.

Athletes from Lviv region won 24 awards, including 5 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze.

“The team of Lviv region among young people under 23 took second place in the team competition. The championship went to the representatives of Kyiv, and men from Odesa region took the third position.

The team of juniors from Lviv Oblast under the age of 20 took third place among 19 regions. The first were the juniors from Donetsk Oblast, and the second – from Khmelnytskyi Oblast,” said Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

“Our young athletes completely declassified the rivals in the 61 kg weight category among juniors.

They took 1st and 2nd place. The fight went on until the last attempt, in which 16-year-old Vitalii Soroka, a medal winner at last year’s European Championships, could have won with 121kg and fulfilled the MSU standard. But he failed to keep the bar above his head… and Andriy Lysheha won again and proved his class by winning gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and the combined event!!!

Yevhen Voronka wins the U23 men’s 67kg weight class. This is the first time he has fulfilled the ISU standard.
Having successfully used all 6 attempts, Oleh Shchekalev takes 3rd place in the same weight category!

This year’s champion and medallist of the Ukrainian Women’s Championship and the Ukrainian Universiade, Anna Kirstyuk, also wins silver medals at the Ukrainian Junior Championships in the snatch, clean and jerk and the combined event in the 87 kg weight category.

Our 16-year-old Markiyan Mocherad became the silver medallist of the Ukrainian Junior Championships in the 55 kg weight class. In a spectacular fight, he also won silver in the clean and jerk and in the shot put.

Experienced Orest Romaniv wins silver in the clean and two bronzes in the jerk and the total of the Ukrainian U23 Championships in the 96kg weight category.

In the same weight category, but among juniors under 20, Yaroslav Nyzovyi won three bronze medals in the clean and jerk, the shot put and the combined event.

Victoria Tkachenko in the 64 kg weight category was one step away from medals. She took fourth place in the clean and jerk, the shot put and the combined event.

Daria Kolesnikova, a 16-year-old debutant at the national competition, finished eighth in the same weight category.

Serhii Lysheha finished in sixth place in the 89kg category.

14-year-old Victoria Futryk finished her successful performance in seventh place among juniors in the 45 kg weight category.

Olena Cherkasova finished eighth in the 49 kg weight class and Vitalina Mitsak is in the same position in the 71 kg junior competition.

Sofia Mulyk finished ninth in the women’s 76kg class.

Kristina Norkin took 10th place in the 55 kg weight category.

The teams were sent on a business trip at the expense of the LOVA Regional Department of Youth and Sports.
