The exhibition “Wisdom as a Weapon” will be opened in Lviv for the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hryhoriy Skovoroda

The exhibition will include works of painting, graphics, decorative and modern art, weaving.

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian philosopher-mystic, writer, teacher, theologian, traveler Hryhoriy Savich Skovoroda, the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion presents the exhibition project “Wisdom as a Weapon”. Opening – November 9, at 4 p.m.

The project is jointly implemented by the public organization “Ecology. Culture. Art” and the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

The goal of the project is to honor the intellectual heritage of Hryhoriy Skovoroda, reveal the multifaceted image of the philosopher, encourage artists to rethink his work and read his works through modern art. The curator is Sofia Kaskun, a senior research associate of the LMIR.

At the exhibition, artists from different parts of Ukraine: Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kolomyia, Ternopil, Gorodka, Bryukhovych, Lviv will present works of painting, graphics, decorative and modern art, and weaving. A total of 22 works of honored and popular artists, young artists and their teachers. A trigger is proposed for each picture (own sayings or Skovoroda’s sayings that gave impetus to the creation of the picture). This will help the visitor to get acquainted not only with the artists who worked on the subject of Skovoroda, but also with Skovoroda’s quotes, to learn more about him.

In addition, a traveling exhibition is planned, which will present reproductions of the works. Visitors will be able to view it in the open space at Museum Square, 1.

An exhibition of posters by students of Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts, dedicated to Hryhoriy Skovoroda, will also be interesting. And thanks to the famous Ukrainian calligrapher, the author of the graphic style of the OCU, Oleksiy Chekal, the project also got its logo.

The exhibition can be viewed until the end of 2022.
