The building is an architectural monument of local importance. First of all, repair and restoration work is carried out here on the leaking roof.
Restoration work at the monument is carried out by Roxys Group LLC.
“The Brodiv City Council planned to restore the monument even before the start of the full-scale invasion. This year, due to the critical condition of the roof covering, 6 million hryvnias have been earmarked for restoration work in the regional budget. Another 1.5 million was allocated by the local government. Yes, with joint efforts we want to complete the full range of works provided for in the contract price by the end of the year,” says Olena Vasylko, director of the Department of Architecture and Urban Development.
The building of the branch of the Bank of Prague in Brody was built between 1909 and 1911. Previously, there were two houses on this site, and once upon a time there was the “Hotel under the horse”, which burned down during a great fire in May 1859.
“The roof of the building could no longer withstand the slightest rain. Water was dripping from the ceiling in the offices. Repairs in the premises did not help,” commented the situation on the Facebook page of the Brodiv City Council.
The bank itself functioned until the beginning of the First World War. During which the Austrian city administration was located here. During the ZUNR period, the military command of Brody was stationed.
During the Second World War, the city was bombed by German aircraft. The targets were various military-strategic objects, including the headquarters of the Kresova Cavalry Brigade and the former Prague Bank. One of the bombs almost destroyed the building – it fell on the opposite side of the street. To this day, many traces of debris and bullets from both world wars can be seen on the facade of the building.
