Unique embroideries, festive clothes, decorative and useful fabrics: the “Colors of Repentance” exhibition was opened in Vynnyky

This is a joint project of the Historical and Local History Museum and the National Museum of Folk Art of the Hutsul Region and Pokuttia named after J. Kobrynskyi.

On April 5, the Museum of History and Local Lore in Vinnyky opened the exhibition “Colors of the Passion”.

The exhibition presents works from the collection of the National Museum of Folk Art of the Hutsul Region and Pokuttia named after J. Kobrynskyi, including unique embroideries, festive women’s and men’s clothing, decorative and utilitarian fabrics of the end of the XIX-XX centuries of one of the most interesting in terms of its culture, customs and art historically of ethnographic regions of Ukraine – Pokuttia.

The exhibition “Colors of Repentance” is illustrated with photographs by Julian Dorosh.

The territory of Pokuttia covers modern Kolomyyshchyna, Snyatynshchyna, Horodenkivshchyna, Tlumachchyna and the northern part of Tysmenichchyna. These regions are distinguished by their unique artistic features, richness of ornamentation and color, variety of embroidery techniques, woven articles for clothing and interior design.

“The exhibition is complemented by traditional ceramic products of the hereditary family of Kolomysk potters Kahnikevich, the Kolomysk Pottery School, useful wooden products and Pokut Easter eggs. The exhibition was presented by Yaroslava Yuryivna Tkachuk, the long-time director of the National Museum of Folk Art of the Hutsul region and Pokutty named after Y. Kobrynskyi, an honored worker of culture of Ukraine. Under her leadership, the museum was replenished with a unique collection of artifacts and became a European center for studying the history and ethnography of Pokuttia and Hutsul region.

Today, the National Museum of Folk Art of the Hutsul Region and Pokuttia named after Y. Kobrynskyi is known not only in Ukraine, but also far beyond its borders,” noted Ihor Tymets.
