Lviv Hosts Significant International Events: Sanctions, Defense, and Tribunal
Today in Lviv, three strategically important international events took place:
- A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of EU countries — an informal session where new sanctions against Russia, defense support, and Ukraine’s path to the European Union were discussed.
- The signing of an agreement directing the second tranche of profits from frozen Russian assets. This involves 1 billion euros for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The document was signed by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas, along with representatives from Denmark, France, and Italy.
- A meeting of the War Crimes Group coalition of states, working on establishing a special tribunal for senior Russian officials responsible for the killings of Ukrainians, massive destruction, and other war crimes. The tribunal will be established in The Hague. The Council of Europe plays a central role in this process. Today’s Lviv Declaration marks the start, and a future agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe will finalize the tribunal’s launch.
