13 road accidents involving cyclists have occurred in Lviv Oblast since the beginning of April

Unfortunately, one person died and seven were injured in the mentioned traffic accidents. The police of the Lviv region urge cyclists to follow the traffic rules and be careful while driving.

Law enforcement officers remind that:

– persons who have reached the age of 14 are allowed to ride bicycles on the road;

– the bicycle must be equipped with a sound signal and reflectors: in front – white, on the sides – orange, behind – red;

– for movement in the dark and in conditions of insufficient visibility, a lamp (headlight) must be installed and switched on on the bicycle.

– cyclists must ride on the bike lane. If there is no bicycle lane, then they have the right to ride on the carriageway of the road only in one row on the right extreme lane;

– at unregulated pedestrian crossings, cyclists, like all other drivers, must give way to pedestrians;

– cyclists must cross the carriageway at a bicycle crossing, and if they need to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing, they must get off their bicycle and cross the road as a pedestrian.

A cyclist is prohibited from:

– drive a bicycle with a malfunctioning brake, sound signal, and in the dark and in conditions of insufficient visibility — with the lamp (headlight) turned off or without reflectors;

– move along highways and roads for cars, as well as on the carriageway when there is a bicycle path nearby;

– move on sidewalks and footpaths (except for children under 7 years old on children’s bicycles under the supervision of adults);

– hold on to another vehicle while driving;

– drive without holding the steering wheel and remove your feet from the pedals (footrests);

– transport passengers on a bicycle (with the exception of children under 7 years old, who are transported on an additional seat equipped with securely fixed footrests).

Law enforcement officers also urge car drivers: remember that cyclists are full participants in road traffic. Instead, they are more often injured and killed as a result of road accidents. Be attentive and mutually polite!
