Ill-treatment of civilians, including women and young children, documented crimes committed by the Russian military during the occupation

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two Russian servicemen were identified and reported on suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in early March 2022, while in the temporarily occupied village of Buzova, Bucha district, Kyiv region, the suspects – servicemen of one of the military units of the aggressor country, illegally broke into one of the private houses, where threatening with firearms its inhabitants who did not take part in hostilities and did not have weapons. Among them were women and young children.

In addition, the defendants illegally seized the victims’ money by threatening them with physical violence and weapons.

The involvement of suspects in other war crimes in Ukraine is currently being investigated. The issue of declaring them internationally wanted is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Oblast under the operational support of the Strategic Investigations Office in Lviv Oblast of the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proved in law and established by a court conviction.
