Kharkiv resident defrauds Lviv entrepreneur by promising to sell non-existent drones for UAH 600,000

In Lviv, police served a notice of suspicion to an offender who defrauded an entrepreneur of UAH 600 thousand

 

The offender was exposed by officers of the Cybercrime Department in Lviv region jointly with investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, under the procedural supervision of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office.

Law enforcement officers established that the 35-year-old Kharkiv resident promised a 40-year-old entrepreneur to buy drones for sale. However, having received a deposit of more than UAH 440,000, he did not purchase the goods and did not return the money. In addition, the offender allegedly found a client who was to buy computer equipment from the victim. But in fact, he was this “client” himself, having created a fake account. In this way, he also seized goods worth over UAH 1 million 150 thousand.

The total amount of money the offender defrauded the victim of was almost UAH 600 thousand.

Investigators of the territorial police unit served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of three to eight years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
