The pseudo-scientist was exposed by the investigators of the general criminal investigation department of the investigative department of the police of the Lviv region together with operatives of the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv regional prosecutor’s office.
As the law enforcement officers established, in 2009, a resident of the Lviv district, who was 45 years old at the time, provided a fake Diploma of Candidate of Legal Sciences, allegedly issued to him by a prestigious metropolitan university, in order to get a job at one of the higher educational institutions of the Lviv region. After receiving the position, the perpetrator regularly received all the prescribed payments.
In 2012, he gave another fake diploma of the same capital university to the management of the university – the Diploma of Doctor of Legal Sciences, after which he received the academic title of professor and promotion.
The man worked at this educational institution until 2016, after which he moved to another Lviv university, where he headed one of the departments until 2022.
From the beginning of his “scientific” activity, on the basis of forged diplomas, the attacker received academic titles of associate professor and professor, scientific degrees of candidate of sciences and doctor of sciences, and an honorary scientific title. At the same time, he was regularly charged and paid all the relevant additional payments.
In general, the amount of illegal payments received by the perpetrator during these years is about 700 thousand hryvnias.
The law enforcement officers notified the intruder of the suspicion of criminal offenses provided for in Part 3 and Part 4 of Article 358 (Forgery of documents, seals, stamps and forms, sale or use of forged documents, seals, stamps) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, as well as Part 1 and Part 3 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanctions of the articles is imprisonment for a term of up to eight years.
The pre-trial investigation has been completed, the indictment has been referred to the court.
