Two fatal road accidents occurred in the Lviv region in the past day, claiming the lives of residents from Lviv and Stryi districts. In both cases, the drivers fled the scenes, but police promptly identified them and located their whereabouts.
Accident Details
- Accident in Velyki Hrybovychi, Lviv District
- Time: January 19, around 7:10 a.m.
- Location: Ternopil-Lviv-Rava-Ruska highway.
- Incident: A 55-year-old local driver of a Mercedes-Benz Vito struck a 62-year-old pedestrian from the Lviv district.
- Outcome: The pedestrian died on the spot from his injuries.
- Accident in Kam’yane, Stryi District
- Time: January 19, around 7:40 p.m.
- Incident: A 34-year-old female driver of an Audi Q5, a resident of a local village, hit a 44-year-old local man.
- Outcome: The victim died before medical help arrived.
Both drivers fled the scenes.
Investigation
Police conducted operational measures to identify the drivers and locate them.
Criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules).
Penalties
The drivers face:
- Imprisonment for 3 to 8 years.
- Revocation of driving privileges for up to 3 years or without such a penalty.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incidents.
