A 35-year-old resident of the district centre faces up to six years in prison for falsely reporting an explosion and arson that threatened to kill people and cause other serious consequences.
The report of a bomb threat at an infrastructure facility in a village in Stryi district was received on 13 June at 21.25. Explosive experts, the investigative team of the territorial police unit and officers of other services were working at the scene. Law enforcement officers examined the building and the surrounding area. No explosive devices were found.
The police found that the false bomb threat was made by a 35-year-old local resident. The mobile phone used by the offender was seized.
Investigators of the territorial police unit, under the procedural supervision of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 1 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Knowingly false report of a threat to the safety of citizens, destruction or damage to property). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of two to six years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
