Lviv resident to be tried for smuggling of persons liable for military service abroad

Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office, two indictments against a 65-year-old man were sent to court. He is charged with illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine (Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the resident of Lviv illegally transported four persons liable for military service across the state border of Ukraine during martial law.

The accused accompanied the conscripts outside the checkpoints, thus transferring them across the state border to the Republic of Poland. However, there the latter were detained by the border guards of the neighboring state.

The price of the service ranged from 2 to 9 thousand US dollars per person.

The man’s real estate, worth more than UAH 5 million, was seized.

In addition, the court granted the prosecutor’s motion to transfer the bail of more than UAH 500 thousand to the state revenue in connection with the violation of the established duties by the defendant.

The defendant is currently in custody without the right to be released on bail.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Sambir District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region with the operational support of the 7th Border Carpathian Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the Migration Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.

Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
