The police informed the resident of Lviv about the stolen car. The 53-year-old man from Lviv, who has previously been held criminally liable for similar crimes, faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the police, the SUV “Lexus” was stolen on February 7 from Karla Miklos Street in Lviv, where the owner left it overnight near his house.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department and employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Lviv Oblast Police, as well as operatives of the criminal police and investigators of police department No. 2 of Lviv District Police Department No. 2 were involved in the search of the car.
The law enforcement officers conducted a complex of operational and search measures, studied the recordings of video surveillance cameras installed as part of the “Safe Lviv region” program and searched for a stolen car, already with different registration plates, in a so-called “cesspool” located in one of the villages near Lviv.
The police also established the identity of the attacker, a 53-year-old resident of Lviv, who had previously been brought to criminal liability for illegal possession of cars on several occasions.
During the authorized search, the law enforcement officers discovered and seized physical evidence of his involvement in the crime.
Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Frankiv District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the perpetrator of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a term of five to eight years with or without confiscation of property.
The wanted “Lexus” was seized by law enforcement officers at the detention center – later it will be returned to the owner.
