Theft of mineral resources from a mine in Lviv region with losses of almost UAH 2.4 million – an organised group is suspected
Under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in particular the Specialised Environmental Prosecutor’s Office (as a department), four members of the organised group were served suspicion notices. They are charged with embezzlement of other people’s property and forgery of official documents (Part 5 of Article 191, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in January-February 2024, an organised group implemented a scheme to embezzle state property – “coal” – at a mine in Lviv region.
The group included the chief engineer – first deputy director, director, head of the mine’s technological complex and head of the business entity.
In accordance with the plan, the parties entered into a contract for the sale of the “breed”. The company’s official accounting documents contained false information. In particular, the actual volume of extracted minerals was underestimated. Subsequently, the “coal” was sold under the guise of “rock”, which is much cheaper in value, to a company controlled by members of the organised group.
As a result, the coal mining company suffered losses of almost UAH 2.4 million.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure against the suspects and seizing their property to compensate for the damage is being decided.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with the operational support of the SID in Lviv region of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: Pursuant to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
